Born in Washington, DC and raised in Reston, Virginia, Mary built a career in marketing, business development and sales in start-ups and early stage technology companies. The fast paced environment, ability to affect change and help grow a business became her passion. As technology played an increasingly important role in the residential real estate industry she decided to combine her love of the two fields – technology and real estate – with her ability to help people connect within their communities. Hence, Gillespie Realty Group (GRG) was born.
Mary’s first “real” job was working for the Washington Redskins in an entry level public relations role during the early 1990s. Mary’s career in technology began in 1995 when she joined Internet backbone company PSINet where she served in sales and marketing roles. In 1998 she joined Proxicom, a leading web development firm and managed clients such as Mercedes Benz Credit Corporation and Virginia’s Center for Innovative Technology.
In 1999 Mary co-founded and was CEO of LaunchFuel, a venture-backed company that provided strategic business advisory services to portfolio companies and partnered with leading universities, research institutions, corporations and government agencies to commercialize intellectual property. In 2003 Mary joined MicroStrategy as Vice President, Business Development to help spin-out Alarm.com, an industry-leading technology provider of interactive security, automation and energy management solutions. For the past ten years as the company has enjoyed incredible growth, Mary has held a variety of positions including Vice President, Marketing and Business Development, Vice President, Sales Programs, and Vice President, Alarm.com Academy.
Mary has often been described as a connector, someone who is skilled at and enjoys connecting individuals who might benefit from an introduction to each another. As such, she is the Founding Member of Nextdoor Great Falls, a free, private social network that helps residents stay informed about Great Falls happenings. Residents can organize and announce events, share recommendations, post information about local sports registrations and school activities, organize playgroups, post jobs, etc.
